Queensland Number Plates

Queensland's personalised plate program is managed by Personalised Plates Queensland (PPQ), operating under the Department of Transport and Main Roads. QLD plates traditionally feature maroon and white — reflecting the state's sporting colours — though buyers now have access to black, white, and themed styles. Entry-level custom plates start from around $275, while highly sought-after short combinations trade for considerably more on the resale market.

PPQ offers standard personalised plates, prestige plates (shorter numeric or alphanumeric combos), themed plates (including Broncos, Maroons, and military themes), and euro-style plates. Queensland is one of few states that also lets you add a small graphic or emoji-style icon to certain plate types, adding an extra personal touch.

Buying or selling a QLD plate through a private marketplace means you can often find combinations that are no longer available through PPQ directly.
